THE SUMMARY OF THE INDOOR CRICKET WORLD CUP EVENT

The 2007 Indoor Cricket World Cup ended in style with Finals Day on Saturday 29 September 2007.

Final’s Day kicked off with England Men beating France Men by 101 – 21 to win the Men’s Plate Competition. The fact that France reached the Plate Final was courtesy of their first ever Indoor Cricket test victory against Guernsey in the Plate Semi-Final.

This was followed by the U-19 Girl’s Final, the first of four Finals between Australia and South Africa. Although the South African teams fought hard, the additional test match experience of the Australian players won through in the end, and they were successful in all of the U-19 Girl’s, U-19 Boy’s, and Ladies categories.

The Men’s Final was a titanic struggle, where first class fielding by the Australian players put the South African batsmen under pressure, and they could only muster 51 runs in their allotted 16 over’s.

Team South Africa took the court determined to peg back the Australian Men, and they upped their fielding to the highest level seen during the tournament. The South African Captain, Nestus Bosman, bowled an outstanding fourth over to the Australian Men, and for a period of 5 over’s the Australian score fluctuated between 16 and 25 runs, with the tension growing ball by ball.

It was only in the final 4 over’s that Australian batsmen Troy Gurski, and Nick de Grys showed all their experience, making the game safe for Australia, and completing a clean sweep of World Cup’s for the Australian squad.

Former Warwickshire and England star, Tim Munton, assisted Bob Manca, President of the England Indoor Cricket Association, with the presentation of the World Cup trophies.

Other notable achievements during the Indoor Cricket World Cup were:

- The performances of France, Guernsay and Pakistan, who were outstanding, considering that they entered the tournament without the existence any practice facilities in their respective countries.

-  England Men beating Australia Men for the first time in 17 years by 72 runs to 62 runs.

-  Wales Ladies recording their first ever test win over England Ladies

-  Melissa Mayers winning the best batting, and Player of the Tournament in the Girl’s U-19 category.

-  Josh Lalor of Australia winning ALL of the best batting, best batting, and player of the tournament in the Boy’s U-19 category

-  Crizelda Brits of South Africa winning the best batting and Player of the Tournament in the Ladies Category

-  Lee Irwin of Australia winning the Player of the Tournament in the Men’s category

AND, DON’T FORGET THE WORLD CUP PARTY AT ACTION INDOOR SPORTS, WHERE ALL THE PLAYERS AND OFFICIAL ROCKED TO THE SOUNDS OF
